In support of the client’s operations in the field of aerobic digestion, ORA was asked to review current technology in the field of Anaerobic Digestion and to identify technologies and technology suppliers currently operating and available in Europe.
Following discussion with the client, the technologies were separated into three groups:
• AD technologies with a proven track record for the treatment of both source separated kitchen and garden waste and of organics separated from residual MSW
• Dry AD technologies which are less developed and not proven
• Wet AD technologies developed for agricultural wastes and energy crops
The desk based review included a technical description, track record, biogas yield, environmental impact, regulatory compliance, commercial considerations and indicative costings.
A list of suppliers deemed suitable for closer study was then drawn up with a view to establishing further supplier contact in the form of site visits.
