Pöyry has expanded its waste management services portfolio and market presence in its environmental business by acquiring Ingenieurgemeinschaft Witzenhausen Fricke & Turk GmbH (IGW) Germany. The company's operational base is in Witzenhausen, Germany and it is one of the leading companies in Europe for mechanical and biological waste treatment. Beside this, the major fields of activities are waste and resource management as well as the use of energy and products from regenerating raw materials. Especially these activities are closely related to the current climate change discussion. Pöyry is strengthening its position in Germany as a leading consultant in environmental consulting and engineering, employing more than 300 experts.
IGW was founded 1986 as the first consulting engineer to introduce separate collection of organic waste in Germany. Out of this business IGW developed further services related to collection and treatment of organic wastes. Following the increased awareness of waste related problems the company has continuously expanded in Europe and worldwide. The company's net sales in 2006 amounted to EUR 2 million. IGW will be consolidated into Pöyry as of October 1, 2007.
The Management of IGW says: "We believe that joining forces with Pöyry will help us to strengthen our position in the domestic market by making optimal use of the synergetic effects in our fields of competence. We are especially pleased with the fact that Pöyry’s long experience in international markets will enable us to successfully expand our services."
Dr. Mark Husmann, President of Pöyry GKW Germany GmbH comments:
"The integration of IGW will round off our portfolio of services and enables us to provide our clients with all areas of competence in the field of environmental protection. This is not only valid for the national business but carries a special significance for our international business. The transfer of know-how between our enterprises will create completely new products and a unique market position".
Pöyry is a global consulting and engineering firm focusing on the energy, forest industry and infrastructure & environment sectors. Pöyry's net sales in 2006 amounted to about EUR 620 million and it employs 7000 experts.
